Updated over a month ago

Introduction

Organizing your items into categories is essential for maintaining a structured and user-friendly event platform. Categorizing items such as products, projects, or job offers helps attendees easily navigate through your offerings, ensuring they find what they need quickly and efficiently. This article will walk you through the steps of creating item categories in the Studio, as well as how to reuse these categories across multiple events within the same community.

How to create Items categories?

To keep things organized, you might be required to split your Items into different categories.

  • Log into the Studio

  • On the left-hand menu, select Content then Items.

  • On the top-right, click on Item settings.

  • Click on Create a new type of item

How to reuse Items across Events in the same Community

One of the significant advantages is the ability to reuse item categories across different events within the same community. This feature saves time and ensures consistency across your events.

Here's how you can do it:

  1. In the Studio, go to Items → Item Settings

There, you are able to reuse an Item Type that has previously been created in another Event within the same Community.

This speeds up the creation of new Events as Organizers only need to create Items and Item Types once per Community, as opposed to once per Event as things used to be.

With this feature, Organizers can add a whole list of Items (through the Item Types' categorization) in just a few clicks.

Important considerations

  • All the sub-categories that were already created for the Item Type are also added

  • All the Custom fields that are attached either to the Item Type or to any sub-category are also added

  • The Item Type is now shared in several Events. This means that modifying any of the following will also modify it for all the Events the Item Type is attached to:

    • The Item Type itself

    • Sub-categories of the Item Type

    • Any Custom field attached either to the Item Type or to any sub-category

    • No matter what Items are enabled for a specific Event, the order of the Exhibitor’s Item list for a specific Item Type is consistent across the whole Community. This means modifying the order will modify it for all the Events where the Exhibitor is present and where the Item Type is enabled.

Creating and managing item categories within your event platform is crucial for organizing your content and providing attendees with a seamless browsing experience. By leveraging the ability to reuse item types across events, you can save time, maintain consistency, and ensure that your attendees have access to well-organized and easily navigable content.
