Implementing SSO (Single Sign-On) for your Branded App

Easily manage Single Sign-On (SSO) settings in the Studio to control attendee and exhibitor authentication and enhance security.

Updated over a week ago

💎 SSO is available exclusively with a Branded App, which is a paid add-on.

If you have purchased the Branded App or the White-label add-on, you can set up SSO via SAML directly from the Studio without any additional charges. However, if you require technical assistance or need help implementing SSO using a different protocol, additional fees will apply.

What is Single Sign-On (SSO)?

Single Sign-On (SSO) is a convenient authentication method that lets users access multiple apps with just one login. It simplifies the login process, enhances security, and reduces the need for users to manage multiple passwords.

With SSO, you can customize how attendees log in to your branded app, offering better control over authentication.

Swapcard supports SSO through the SAML 2.0 protocol, acting as both an Identity Provider and a Service Provider. Learn more about Swapcard SAML 2.0 SSO.

This article will guide you on how to implement SAML 2.0 SSO with Swapcard as the Service Provider.

Why Use SAML 2.0 SSO?

Using SAML 2.0 SSO has several benefits for your event:

  • Improved User Experience: Attendees can access the app with just one login, eliminating the need to remember multiple credentials.

  • Enhanced Security: Fewer passwords mean reduced risks of security breaches.

  • Simplified Management: Event organizers can easily configure and manage login settings to match event needs.

How to add SAML SSO to your Branded App

  1. Access the Studio

Log in and navigate to the "Application" tab in the main menu. This is where you can manage your event app's setting.

  2. Set Up SSO

In the "Login & SSO" tab, you can:

    • Set up a new SSO

    • Manage existing configurations

We can also upload a Metadata file that avoid to input manually each field.

To implement SAML SSO, you'll need to provide the required metadata and certificates. You can also customize the SSO button label and set up error messages to help attendees with login issues.

SSO can be added alongside or as a replacement for the regular login method (email with password / one-time code). If you have multiple sign-in methods, you can arrange them using the drag-and-drop function.

  3. Preview Your Login Page

You can preview the login page as your attendees and exhibitors will see it, ensuring everything is set up to your liking.
We are able to download Swapcard metadata file, and this file allow you to configure the login page on your side.

How to customize the welcome subtitle on the Login page?

If your app uses the standard email/password or one-time code login, you can customize the welcome subtitle (default: "Please enter the email address you provided during registration"). Here’s how:

  1. Go to your branded app settings in Studio.

  2. Open the "Login & SSO" tab.

  3. Click the three-dot icon next to "Email with password or one-time"

  4. Edit the welcome subtitle and customize it for different languages, if necessary.
