Plan & Build FAQs

Developer Accounts and Access

  • What type of Developer Account do I need for Apple and Google?

You must use organizational developer accounts for both Apple and Google. Personal accounts are not accepted, as the apps are published under your company’s name.

  • Can I use a personal developer account?

No. Apple and Google require that apps representing organizations use Company/Organization accounts. This ensures your app appears under your company name in the stores and complies with publishing rules.

  • What roles or permissions should I grant to Swapcard?

We recommend granting Admin access for Apple and Admin or Editor access for Google.

If granting Admin access isn’t possible, App Manager (Apple) or limited roles (Google) also work, as long as the required boxes are checked to manage apps, certificates, identifiers, and profiles.

  • What if I don’t want to share full access to my Developer Account?

If you prefer not to grant full Admin access, you can generate and share the necessary certificates, API keys, and service accounts instead.

API Keys and Setup

  • Where do I find my App Store Connect API key and Issuer ID?

You can find them under Users and Access → Integrations → App Store Connect API in your Apple Developer account.

  • Can I reuse the same API keys for multiple branded apps?

Yes. As long as your existing API keys remain valid, you can use the same set for all branded apps published under your developer account. There’s no need to generate new ones.

  • What happens if my API key expires or gets revoked?

You’ll need to create and upload a new key in the Studio. Make sure the Issuer ID and Key ID match your Apple account details.

Studio Configuration

  • Where do I upload my app icon, fonts, and colors?

You can upload all branding elements under Branding → Colors and Fonts in the Studio.

  • What size and format should my launch screen image be?

Use 1125 × 2436 px (PNG format, no transparency). Keep clear margins of around 240 px top and bottom.

  • What does the “slug” mean when creating my app?

The slug is a short, unique identifier for your app. It’s used internally in the Studio and also appears in the URL of your app on Google Play. Avoid special characters or specific years, and make sure it represents your brand clearly.

  • Why is there a test user added automatically?

Each branded app includes a required test user for app store reviews. This profile is invisible to attendees and must not be deleted.

Common Issues

  • Why is my app showing as “Outdated” in the Studio?

This means the app version currently in the stores differs from the latest one available. Check your developer account agreements or keys — once fixed, the status will update after the next sync (every 24 hours).

  • How long does it take for app changes to appear in the store?

Store reviews typically take between 24 and 72 hours. Once approved, updates appear in the stores and in the Studio within the next daily sync.

  • Why can’t I see the test user in my event?

The test user is hidden from the attendee view. It’s only used for Apple and Google to test the app during review.

Manage & Promote FAQs

App Updates and Store Reviews

  • How often are branded apps updated?

Swapcard regularly submits updates with new features, bug fixes, and performance improvements. You can request manual updates if needed.

  • Does updating my app affect the live version?

No. Users can continue using the existing version until the new one is approved and published. Updates never interrupt live app functionality.

  • What happens if my app update is rejected?

If Apple or Google rejects an update, the current live version remains available. Our team will reach out to you to fix any issues before resubmitting.

Transferring or Removing Apps

  • How can I transfer ownership of my app to another account?

App ownership transfers must be done through the Apple Developer portal or Google Play Console.

  • How do I delete my app from the App Store or Play Store?

You can unpublish it directly from your developer console.

Marketing and Visibility

  • How can I increase downloads of my app?

Start promoting early with QR codes, emails, and social posts highlighting key app features.

  • Where can I find my app’s store links?

You’ll find direct App Store and Play Store links in your Studio under the Overview tab of your branded app.
